Sociopaths; Monsters, Tyrants and Game Playing Abusers

As an aspiring enlightened soul I’ve tried my level best throughout my entire life to evolve and all through a process of greater understanding. A life passage which has involved much internal and external introspection and a great deal of work I may add, although I’m certainly not complaining.

However one of the main reasons for all that work was that during my early years I found that I was frequently troubled by individuals who came into both my personal and working life. Individuals who appeared to be; implicitly self-centred, deviant and extremely malicious. In fact they appeared to be almost unreservedly evil in an indeterminable sort of way. Albeit I concede that evil is a little bit of an evocative word to use.

Yet it wasn’t until I’d undergone much personal, scientific and spiritual exploration that I finally understood the reason for this perplexing personality trait. Whereupon I discovered that those people were probably nothing more than clinical sociopaths. Now in truth one really needs to be a professionally trained clinical psychologist to identify just who is and who isn’t a sociopath and I wouldn’t ever argue with that position. I have no professional credentials or credibility in that area. I’m just a regular guy who’s put as I say a lot of work into my own personal evolution and therein I’m still very much work in progress.

However what I would say is that if you’re in a difficult personal relationship with e.g. a lover, a sibling, one of your own children or indeed having to deal with difficult individuals in a work place situation. I don’t believe there’s any harm in exploring some of the personality traits of clinical sociopaths.

Its important to note however that exploring those headlines won’t remove such impediments from your life or at least not over night. All it can possibly do is help you see that you’re not the problem, the problem rests firmly with your abuser and your abuser is probably a sociopath. Which has to be a better place to be than living in a state of fear and possibly utter confusion. Such is our world when interacting or cohabiting with clinical sociopaths.

In terms of my own personal experiences, I’ve always found sociopaths to be quite destructive individuals and they do that in a number of ways. I guess that’s why and for me I believe that it’s not possible now to have either a stable or healthy relationship with a sociopath. In my considered opinion they’re cruel, manipulating and divisively controlling. Such that if you find that you’re actually living or working in the shadow of a sociopath. My only advice is to seek help and afford yourself the breadth of self love that you really need. To enable yourself to withdraw from their clutches as a matter of great urgency.

Its also important to accept that you can’t save or help sociopaths because they very rarely reform and you certainly can’t honour yourself as long as you’re in a relationship with a sociopath. Most sociopaths are highly intelligent yet irretrievably mentally ill and it’s that combination which makes them so deadly. They’re simply not like individuals with emotional mental health issues who can with help and support get well. Clinical research suggests that for sociopathic individuals post adolescent development, the condition appears to be permanent and therein incurable. No doubt a derivative of the clinical fact that they’re the least likely individuals to seek or accept medical help or indeed comply with clinical treatment regimes. Choosing instead to play the I’m cured game, the victim, the I know better or the I don’t understand endgame, whilst callously breaking the hearts of those who love them in the process.

That being said if you have the time please do have a look at some of these generic personality traits of a sociopath and decide for yourself if you’re in an healthy or unhealthy relationship. However my personal advice would be not to explore these headlines with or in the presence of any suspected sociopathic controlling influence. Given that they probably have a vested interest in keeping you in the dark, so to speak. Which could make you current situation a whole lot worse than it needs to be, given the fact that sociopaths can be very scary individuals, especially when they’re feeling threatened.

Some Generic Sociopathic Personality Traits

Glibness and Superficial Charm:- They exhibit very little substance in anything they say or do. Frequently withdrawing internally only to return in either a hyper or agitated state.

Manipulative and Conning:- They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering. They may dominate and humiliate their victims daily.

Grandiose Sense of Self:- They believe that they are entitled to great things as “their right”. Continually push for arguments to reinforce their dominance over their victim.

Pathological Lying:- They have no problem lying and lie on a consistent basis. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt:- They view their victims as targets and opportunities not people. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions:- They are accomplished at feigning warmth, joy, love and compassion. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person.

Incapacity for Love:- They frequently use the word “love” to control their victims, but appear to be incapable of love. Can appear to be soulless, shallow and hollow individuals.

Need for Stimulation:- They live on the edge, overt promiscuity; excessive sex, drinking, drug taking and gambling etc. Blame others for the negative outcome of their excesses.

Lack of Empathy:- They are unable to empathise with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Poor Behavioural Controls:- They alternate between rage and small expressions of love whilst seeking approval for their actions which produces a sense of hopelessness in their victims.

Parasitic Lifestyle:- They tend to move around a lot, poor work ethic whilst exploiting others finances effectively. At their happiest when someone else is picking up the bill.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility:- They change their life story readily including; outward beliefs and ideology when in new situations or relationships whilst retaining a manipulative and divisive hold on and over their victims.

I have no medical or clinical qualifications and so it’s important that I MUST stress that the above is for information only.  Just because something we read makes more sense around a difficult or troubling situation or relationship, nothing is conclusive until that has been professionally validated and therein it is not my intention to portray any other position.

If however when you’ve read this little article and your inner voice starts trying to communicate with you. Then please do seek the professional help and support that you need, it’s there all you have to do is reach out and embrace it.

My own personal take is that sociopaths have only one reason for their being and that it is self gratification at anyone’s expense. That’s why I believe that it’s very helpful, to be able to recognise such complex symptomology from a 100 yards, therein hopefully sparing ourselves a whole lot of unnecessary pain further down the line.

If for no other reason than and as the old saying goes; forewarned is forearmed. Amen.
